Simple, but effective homemade lip balm recipe.

Simple, but effective homemade lip balm recipe.

Making homemade lip balm is amazing simple, and from this moment on  you’ll never have to pay for a 3 dollar tube of lip balm, that you have to keep reapplying to keep your lips soothed, again. Most recipes online call for a bunch of different ingredients, which probably work just find, but are unneeded. This recipe only uses two ingredients, coconut oil and beeswax, and it’s soft, goes on smooth, and works great. So you won’t have to keep reapplying.

What you’ll need:

  • Coconut oil
  • Beeswax- (I get mine from
  • A small cooking pot- (try to find one with a pouring lip)
  • Something to stir with- (I use a bamboo skewer so I don’t have to worry about cleaning the wax off)
  • Cheese grater- (It’s probably best if you use one you won’t want to use for anything else, since the beeswax is pretty hard to get off)
  • Lip balm tubes or tin- (both can be found easily online)

All it is, is just one part coconut oil and one part beeswax…like I said super simple. Since the standard lip balm tubes hold 1 teaspoon of product, you’ll need ½ tsp coconut oil and ½ tsp beeswax for each tub you want to make. If after you make one you find you want it former, just add more beeswax. And if you want it softer just add more coconut oil. But Half and half is perfect for me and my family.

Drop the coconut oil into pan and put it on low heat.

Grate the beeswax.  You can just eye ball the amount and cut a chunk off the block, but grating it will give you a better measurement and it will melt quicker. Again, use a grated you won’t mind only using for grating beeswax, because it’s gonna be hard to get off.

Pack grated beeswax into the measuring spoon.

After the coconut oil is fully melted, drop the beeswax into the pan.

Use your bamboo skewer to stir the mixture until the beeswax is fully dissolved.

Once everything is fully dissolved, it will be a yellow tint. Also if you want to add any flavorings or colorings  you can do it at this point.

Pour into tube or tin.

Cap it and let it cool. Make sure you keep it upright and don’t tip it while it’s cooling. You can put it in the fridge to speed up the cooling process.

And there you go.
